General note

Select the target journal right at the beginning, before starting to write the manuscript. So that the manuscript can be written in line with the selected journal requirement.

Based on the literature review

  • Identify where most of the literature relevant to your study is published. One method is to look at the references for clues.
  • Visit the journal's webpage and identify the kind of manuscripts they are interested in publishing.
  • Make a list of journals that are a close match
  • Find out the impact factor for each and then go for the one with the highest impact first

Using [Jane http://www.biosemantics.org/jane/]

  • Online application that points to journals relevant to your manuscript where you can publish
  • Lists journal names, article impact factor and matching articles
  • Enter the title and/or abstract of the paper in the box
  • Jane will then compare your document to millions of documents in Medline to find the best matching journals, authors or articles.
  • Instead of using a title or abstract, you can also search using a keyword search, similar to popular web search engines
